the media do a disservice to our national security efforts to inform the government uses the techniques?
endangers national security when publications such as USA Today and The New York Times described the things that makes our government (eg keeping detailed records telephone calls made by individuals) who can be against / above the law? or feel that the public has a right to know and the media are within their rights? is the need to know beyond the need for secrecy? Why or why not?
My opinion on this not so much in the media but the people who leaked it. Obviously, people who feel loss of those programs that such government actions are outside the enumerated powers of the executive branch and the need to bring to light. Many people are saying, "Well, this is for Congress to decide, if it is beyond the powers, then Congress will stop him. "Most of the time, this is true. However, there are partisan politics involved in this time. The President, the Senate and House are heavily dominated by Republicans and that they will not "gossip" with each other or try to stop the authority of president. In this case, the only way to stop the president from overstepping his authority is to get the public involved. For this reason it was leaked to the press. Press has the obligation to publish the news and inform the public, not to make public policy decisions. For this reason, I am not angry with anyone about this information get out. There is a legitimate concern that the president's actions are beyond the scope of his authority and this was the only way that would be addressed.
